Welcome. . . to the Green Free Library.

We are the largest public library in Tioga County serving a patron population of over 11,000. In addition to our collection of fiction for all ages to curl up with on a quiet evening, we have:

  • an extensive collection of nonfiction titles for adults and children
  • a large collection of books on tape, CD or online to download
  • a wide variety of videos and DVDs
  • a growing collection of books in large print
  • interlibrary loan (ILL) to find books for you not in our collection
  • a special collection of local history resources
  • free access to the internet

The library staff and Board of Directors wish to thank everyone for their generous support of our 2009 Annual Appeal. We received more donations than last year which helps offset the budget deficient. We are still accepting donations throughout 2010. Thanks again!

Welcome to Summer Reading 2010

The last preschool and school-age program will be held at 11 AM on August 4th. The lunch, bingo games, and puppet show will be outside, weather permitting. Please bring a beach towel or blanket to sit on for the activities.

Reading logs and the blue reading forms must be completed by August 2nd. Please return the blue forms to the library by 8 PM on that Monday. Prizes will be randomly drawn during the morning of Tuesday, August 3rd. The prizes will be awarded during the Beach Party. If not present, the prize winners will be called after the program.

The activities are listed on the Youth Programs page. Teen and adult reading logs are due by Monday, August 9, 2010.

The online registration is still open, or you can come into the library to complete a paper registration. Patrons who have registered online can use the online log for their reading minutes. For assistance, please contact the library at 570-724-4876. Click on the Welcome heading listed above to link to the registration page. Remember to click on the correct tab for the program that you are registering. We have 4 programs: Preschool Splash, School Splash, Teen Waves, and the Adult Program.

Next book for the Adult Book Club will be Double Bind by Chris Bohjalian. The discussion will take place in the library on September 14, 2010 at 6:30 PM.

HeritageQuest Online is back! The site was dropped by the North Central Library District because of funding. But we have received donations through the Friends of The Green Free Library and others to purchase this 'comprehensive treasury of American genealogical sources.' Click on Databases on the Navigation Bar to access the website. Thank you for supporting this beneficial service.

Due to budget issues, North Central Library District has decided to drop the Learning Express Library by the end of August 2010. But through donations, we hope to save this valuable resource for our patrons.
