Story Hour

The weekly reading program runs during the school year from September through May.

The story time begins at 10:15 AM and continues until approximately 11 AM.

In order to fit the needs of differing age groups, story hour is divided into two groups, one for birth to three year olds and another for three to five year olds.

The fall 2010 weekly story hour will start on September 22, 2010.

 

Summer Reading Program

Make a Splash @ The Green Free Library

Held June 23, 2010 to August 4, 2010

The summer reading program started on June 23rd at 10:15 AM. Preschool programs are held in the library, and the school-age programs are held in the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center. Besides the weekly events, there is also a reading program that runs throughout the program. Flyers for all the activities are available in the library.

Reading minutes must be logged by August 2nd. The blue forms must be returned to the library by 8 PM on that Monday. Prizes will be randomly drawn on Tuesday, August 3rd. The last program will be held outside at 11 PM. Lunch, bingo games, and a puppet show will be provided.

Something new this year was the online registration. Patrons can still register for the activities and once registered, can log their reading minutes. Online registration started on May 22nd. For assistance, please contact the library at 570-724-4876.

Everyone: High Seas Adventure with the library staff

A fun morning filled with pirate games, songs, and stories. The program will be held outside, weather permitting. If it rains, inside activities are planned.

July 14th

Preschool: See Ya Later, Alligator with Canyon Country Reptiles

School Age: WOW: Wonders of Water with Janice Hughes

July 21st

Preschool: Something's Fishy with the US Army Corps of Engineers

School Age: Be Cool, Play it Safe with the US Army Corps of Engineers

July 28th

Preschool: A Whale of a Good Time with Beverly Smith

School Age: Utterly Otterly Day with Audrey Patterson

August 4th

Everyone: Beach Party (this program starts at 11 AM)

The party includes food, bingo games, and a puppet show by Bruce Weaver. Please bring a beach towel or blanket since we will be sitting outside on the lawn.

 

 

Teen Programs

New this summer will be a teen reading program where the participants can log weekly reading minutes. Teens will be able to register online for this program on May 22nd. The program runs from June 21st through August 9th. .

Youth Collections

The Children's Room houses books for preschoolers through second graders. Some DVDs, multimedia kits, and music are also available. The train set, activity center, and other hands-on materials are also found in this location.

The Robinson Room has two computers with educational software available for children ages 10 and under.

Nonfiction and fiction books for juveniles and young adults are in separate locations in the Robinson Room. Some audiobooks are also available for these ages groups.

DVDs and videos for youth are available in the Main Room of the library.
